UFC 82 Preview
UFC 82 features a lot of familiar names, Diego Sanchez, Josh Koscheck, Chris Leban, Luke Cummo. Not to mention some elite fighters such as Andre Arlovski and John Fitch. We didn’t even talk about the feature matchups yet. What that means fellow UFC fans is that we are just not going to get to see all of the matchups we want to see. Realizing this, there are 3 bouts I am really hoping will get aired.
The first is of course the title bout between Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva. Frankly, I don’t think anyone can beat Silva right now. The only way he can lose is to beat himself. Dan Henderson on the other hand can beat anybody on any give day. We all know his Pride history, the belts, the big wins etc etc, but again to UFC fans that stuff is all word of mouth. Few of us have actually really seen Dan Henderson fight. Of course we saw the loss to Rampage and that seems to be the way it goes with the Pride crew. They show up here highly touted , and then get beat. Mrko Cro Cop, Dan Henderson, Wanderlai Silva, Shogun all come to mind. But its different in the octagon, they all say it. It is an adjustment no two ways about it. So I think we will see a top of the line bout Saturday night and I think if Silva makes a mistake he could be in serious trouble of losing his belt. IF, he makes a mistake. I don’t think he will, at least not before he does enough damage with his deadly striking to really slow Henderson down. Regardless it should be a great bout, and I am predicting Silva as the winner
Second is Cheick Kongo vs Heath Herring. I don’t think we are going to see any methodical ground and pound here. Both men are going to be looking for a knockout which makes for an exciting fight. Herring is an old fashioned tough guy but I think that plays right into Kongo’s hands. He will try to stand in front of Kongo and strike figuring he has been hit on the chin by everyone else who has ever fought so what’s the difference in this fight. But that will be his undoing. Anyone who has ever seen Kongo fight knows what level his striking is on. He will knock Herring out in the third round
Third is Evan Tanner vs Yushin Okami. Veteran UFC fans know Tanner and like me are glad to see him back. This is a guy who only loses to the upper echelon, or at least it’s a guy who used to only lose to the upper echelon. Hopefully, he is still that same fighter. If he is, he wins. I know Okami is a tough fighter and no push over. He is also very strong for that weight class. But he is not what I would consider an elite fighter. If Tanner is not who he once was, this fight is pretty even, but here is one UFC fan who is hoping to see another elite fighter back in action. I am figuring that if Tanner wasn’t ready, he wouldn’t be back and therefore I pick Tanner.
It’s a great card no matter who he get to see so enjoy it sports fans and we all know March Madness is coming up soon so look for my bracket soon
